Silvern Castle is a fantasy role-playing game (RPG) for the Apple II in the spirit of the classic Wizardry. Unlike Wizardry, which was written in Pascal and proclaimed as a game "that simply could not have been written in Basic"; Silvern Castle is almost entirely written in AppleSoft Basic.
Purchased by Softdisk Publishing in 1988, Silvern Castle was never published. After Softdisk discontinued Apple II publishing, I requested and received permission from Softdisk to have the rights to the program revert back to me. Released for the first time as shareware in 1999, I subsequently reclassified it to freeware status later in 2000.

Minimum System Requirements:
- Apple IIe, Apple IIc, or Apple IIgs
- ProDOS 8 v1.8 or later
- 3.5" disk drive
Preferred System Requirements:
- Apple IIgs (w/ZipGSX or TWGS accelerator)
- A2 emulator running 8Mhz or faster
- Hard drive
Silvern Castle is distributed as a shrinkit file and as a hard drive image that is usable with most emulators. The current releases will allow you to upgrade any older version of Silvern Castle or to create a new installation. You can always update to a later version of Silvern Castle at any time; however, DO NOT attempt to reverse update back to an earlier release-it won't work.
After downloading the shrinkit file, you will need to find a way to transfer it to your Apple II or emulator, and unpack the contents to a folder using Shrinkit. I highly recommend using Ciderpress to transfer shrinkit files and manage emulator disk images.
Please note that Silvern Castle requires a 3.5" 800K disk or hard drive-it will not fit on a 5.25" 140K disk.
Please be aware that new features added since V9.0 will barely fit onto a single 3.5" disk. To make sure you don't run out of disk space during upgrading an older version of Silvern Castle, BEFORE YOU UPGRADE, please use the Extra's Menu Utility option "Delete Instant AutoMap Images" or "Delete Cached Images". Run it for each of the three scenarios.
To avoid running out of disk space when playing Silvern Castle from 3.5" disks, make sure the "Auto-Save AutoMap Image" or "Cache AutoMap Images" preference is set to N.
Hard Drive Image:
The hard drive image can be used with most Apple II emulators such as AppleWin or KEGS. The hard drive image is bootable and contains the shrinkit file containing Silvern Castle ready to be unpacked with the included Shrinkit program. Please see the complete emulator installation instructions.
For best performance, set your emulator to run at 8Mhz or faster.
